The meetings took place between 19th and 21st of June in Lisbon and São Domingos (Portugal).

19th of June, at the beginning of the meeting, LCW showed around their office in Lisbon (Portugal) to the project members. All partners showed their presentations and many comments were made, prior to the travel to the next meeting, in the Auditorium and Mine in São Domingos. This meeting functioned as a preparation for the next day meeting in São Domingos.

 

On 20th of June that meeting took place. CTA and Mértola’s municipally authorities welcomed the audience. Within the audience, there were representatives of Empresa de Desenvolvimento Mineiro, S.A (EDM) -which is the concessionaire of São Domingos Mine conservation and environmental restauration- and also were present representatives of APA Alentejo. After this warm welcome, the presentation started. Presentations were performed according to the agenda. Technical questions were made by EDM representatives and answered by the consortium partners. Contactica closed this part of the meeting thanking Mértola’s authorities for the hosting of the meeting and the interest shown about BiometalDemo.

After the end of the presentations all the audience went to visit LCW wastewater pilot plant that treats mine effluents using sulphate reductase bacteria which consume wine wastes as carbon source. LCW provided a detailed explanation of the wastewater pilot plant including a demonstration of the automated control installed which can be configured remotely.

Finally, the audience went to visit mine lagoons which contain the mine contaminated water that is treated in the pilot plant.

On 21st of June, back again in Lisbon, the BIOMETALDEMO consortium held another metting to discuss the progress, technical challenges and results of the tasks performed by the partners. All the partners were in the meetings: ContacticaUniversidad Complutense de MadridUniversidad de Salamanca, Armines (IMT Mines Alès), LCWCentro de Ciências do Mar-Universidade do AlgarveIndustrial GoñabeServyeco and Hidrolab.
